Mid-Wales
Looking at Welsh counties can be confusing. Today's Powys was yesterday's Breconshire, Radnorshire and Montgomeryshire - all counties in their own right each with their own councils, police constabularies, education boards, workhouses etc.
The towns of Brecon, Rhayader, Llandrindod Wells, Knighton, and Kington are all nowadays in Powys but were in different counties in the nineteenth century.
Welsh place names can be equally confusing - Aberhonddu is Brecon; Cwmdauddwr is very close to Rhayader; and is your Llanbadarn Fawr the one in Radnorshire or the one in Cardiganshire/Ceredigion?
We can guide you through this minefield - we've had to do it ourselves.
